A new
economic model
Barcelona, in its Climate Emergency Declaration, proposed to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by the year 2030, in relation to 1992 levels. This means some 1,950,000 tons of GHGs.
Local
energy generation
The city aims to minimise its dependency on fossil fuels and to promote the generation of local, renewable energy to reduce CO2 emissions. This involves designing a new, more sustainable energy model.
Reducing
energy consumption
Barcelona consumes 15,896 GWh of energy a year. This represents a total of 3.6 million tons of greenhouse gases, equivalent to driving a diesel car half a million times around the world along its equator.
